mining for sanity

Ew.
@kitty - huh. care to guesstimate by what time they'll run out?

Over my dead body. You couldn't pay me to be there. Roaming crowds of Holiday bargain hunters scare the BeJesus outta me !!!
@kitty - lol. sounds about right.
@Beeeze - I hear ya. Roaming crowds? Those crowds don't roam, they hunt. And they will trample, push and punch. They are in it for the kill. Remember that WalMart lady who was trampled and knocked unconscious over a $29 DVD player?
I really get stressed out in volatile crowds. I need my personal space and I'm afraid of being trampled....nothing is worth it to me.
Is this a tradition in the US? Hope, they won't copy that one.
In a crowd like that I start hating people in general. Hunting with masses to save money on things you probably don't even need, brings out the ugly side of people.
@Nikki - Oh yes. it's THE shopping day of the year. Some show up with blankets, sleeping bags, drinks, little cooking stoves, They make a night out of waiting in line. Family members or groups of friends take turns holding their spaces in line. Just tonight I came across a posting on craiglist -- someone offering to stand in line for others for pay. Pretty much any event involving a crowd of 50 or more will show the ugly side. People get seriously injured at Black Friday yet look forward to it each year for the bargains. Retailers like it too, registers ring ring ringing like crazy!
Beeeze - On Black Friday, it helps to don a suit of armor and carry a rifle, I reckon.

What the hell?!

Is this for real?

Are you kidding me?

Who camps out in front of a mall in november? What the hell?!

@Jenni - fo' real. who camps out? folks seriously committed to bargains? insane folks? the lowest common denominator who don't mind getting pushed, punched or crushed, or doing the pushing, punching or crushing, for a super-discounted TV? hell if i know.
I love a sale as much as the next girl, but you'd think Daniel Craig and the Victorias Secret-girls were inside there naked serving unlimited free drinks.
@Jenni - lol (after i looked up daniel craig). sale or not, i'd rather clip my nails with a cuisinart than shop.
I will be sleeping
@LOIL - oh no! and missing out on all the super-duper out-of-this-world bargains?! say it ain't so!

The place where my daughter works just had some promotional thing like that and she said when she turned up to open there were already lines of people and that the day was insane. She said someone got kicked in the head - which was pretty funny - and of course once the bras ran out she copped abuse for the rest of the day.

They have the big sales here on either boxing day or new years day and I always love watching those stampeding crowds on the news. I just can't believe you need something that bad that you're willing to be in the middle of that crowd.

@cat - First, my sympathies to your daughter. Also kudos are in order for surviving the onslaught. Yeah, can't picture needing anything that badly either; certainly can't claim to understand what drives them. This I have read however, directly from the horse's mouth, that it's a game, a challenge to get the products, to stay a step ahead of the crowds (ed. note: stepping on the crowds). I picture this massive pinball machine with players jostling for position and prizes. Some folks do dig that. I don't see the appeal. I see the appeal of living on an island far far away.
I would pay double to not have to deal with these crowds. In those crowds people are NUTS! The become animals, and fight over dolls and TV's. They are rude and mean. I had to work retail on the day after thanksgiving twice, people are cruel and absolutely insane
@LOIL - you said it, sister, you said it. and p.s. i am SOOOOOO glad you don't have to be out in that madness now. people in retail should be granted temporary weapons permits on Black Fridays.
Truly!!!! I can't tell you how many times I was screamed at for things SO beyond my control! But, at that time I was very stressed out and tears were easily produced. Those salty tears put those people in their places.
@LOIL - i feel your pain.
Yeah.... I'll be staying home on Insane, Self-Absorbed, Materialist Friday. Besides, I have a paper I need to finish.... Ha.

@DJ - Insane, Self-Absorbed, Materialist Friday. LOL! LOL! Cracks me up! Isn't that what the NY Times is calling it now? Paper? Who needs a paper? Hell, I'll stay home and watch paint dry all day before getting with 10 miles within a mall!

I am sorry you do..... xo
