on hot bikinis by the park, hot carp and a hot fair

Comments

We only hit the fireworks in a nearby community. Too hot to got out to the park all day.
@SusanM - Ah. Here the sun was out (!!) and the temp hit like 88, which ain't hot but in this area is a scorcher. (Go ahead and laugh, I do - lol.) So liberating to walk around in T-shirts, shorts and sunglasses!!
The Freedom Fair sounds a pleasant way to spend the day/evening. The there/they're and your/you're etc, as well as misplaced or lost apostrophes, are so commonplace now that I wonder if the schools even bother to correct the error (they should). I'm sure it doesn't help that everyone texts in "text" abbreviated language.

When we googled street view of our place a few months ago, the neighbour (now deceased) was out bending over on her front path. We laughed because basically all you could see was her bottom in the air.

@Emjay - lol, too funny! The quality of education - "education" - is abysmal, granted, but there's more to it than that. This growing illiteracy and failure to understand the most *basic* English also reflect failures of parents and the fact that most people just don't care. They don't care whether they can write a second-grade sentence properly (or even improperly). And you're right, texting is another contributing factor. I remember when I first texted (this *years* after cell phones were entrenched in the culture). To my sister. And with thumbs I slowly typed out each word. And thought: "Man, this is gonna take for-ever!" So I turned to some shorthand like "ur" and "u." Damn it was painful!! And I thought: "I could never do this on a daily, much less ongoing, basis!" It deadens the brain ... that's how it felt to me. Call me a freak and rebel but I'm sticking to a keyboard and words.

"Nearly Naked Fireworks"? I can only picture their oily bodies handling the explosives.

As for people gouging costs to get a buck, it's universal. Where's there a profit to be made, people will exploit it!

@caprandom - "Nearly Naked Fireworks"? I can only picture their oily bodies handling the explosives. - lol, good point. Actually Tacoma isn't prone to that level of gouging and exploitation. Matter of fact, downtown parking rates are surprisingly cheap, residents generally very friendly and community-minded and cognizant of this being a blue-collar town and setting prices accordingly. Those people's actions yesterday are the exception here, not the rule. Luckily. :)
St. Louis has a big fair every year. It's the 5th largest fireworks party in the county. I've only been a couple times cause the traffic is incredible, but the fireworks are totally awesome. We went to my MIL....she's very sweet and had a great meal for us. It was fun catching up on what's doing on in her world.

@Beeeze - Hadn't known that about the St. Louis (and can't say it's surprising). Jeez, you'd hope public transportation would be in full gear (no pun intended). Sometimes those little get-togethers are the most relaxing. Glad you had a good 4th!
Highway 40 is still closed. It's on of the main arteries into the city. It's been closed for a year and a half now. They opened the first segment on the reconstruction from Spoede to 170 in Jan or this year. The second half is supposed to be completed at the end of this year. It makes getting into the city really tough. I can't even imagine the traffic jams for the fair.
@Beeeze - I can ... but only 'cause I lived in a country with 40-mile backups at holiday. What a St. Louis nightmare.
I am not a fan of the bikini clad places. 1. The coffee stands I feel are dangerous for those girls, making them sitting ducks for creeps. 2. that much skin exposed is dangerous while working with the hot liquids and equipment 3. that much more of a chance for there to be in my scone... the fireworks... I was trying to explain to my brother in law that it is not the bikini gals that upset me, it is the fact that they are exploiting themselves, they are using their bodies to sell fireworks. They are reducing themselves to just that, they are just a set of boobs. Women are much more than that. And where is the Speedo man coffee and fireworks stand?

I have never been to the freedom fair. I have gone out to fort stilicoom for their fireworks display, Mr. L used to run the race out there in the morning.
@LOIL - Your points about the bikini stands are good; I too have been concerned about safety, bare skin and hot liquids just don't mix. Just the other day there was a show on bikini baristas and the girls loved loved loved their jobs! Loved the attire and the various other skimpy outfits through the week. And the customers loved it -- one guy driving an hour a day just to go see his favorite bikini barista. And the tips, they're *huge.* They make more in a month than I do in six!! Anyhow, what I found particularly interesting about this featured stand is that a woman started it.
As for the Freedom Fair, it's worth a visit; have heard that Steilacoom puts on a good fireworks show ... though dunno whether that was the case this year with the severe cutbacks.
Hey, some people are superficial, as long as the cash comes in, morals is optional.
@caprandom - truer words have never been spoken!
